Tottenham rival Manchester United in race to sign Brazilian winger Antony

Antonio Conte is reportedly keen to sign Ajax’s Antony this summer which could see Tottenham Hotspur rival Manchester United in a race to sign the Brazil international.

Antony, 22, registered 12 direct goal contributions in Ajax’s title-winning campaign last term and Erik ten Hag has been linked with signing an array of the players he guided in Amsterdam.

However, despite United’s interest, Spurs believe they could hold the key to bringing Antony to the Premier League. Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported Dutchman Steven Bergwijn is being targeted by Ajax, with a deal being a real possibility.

We reported about ‘initial talks’ taking place between United and Antony’s entourage this summer, it remains to be seen if the club will take a step closer to signing the player. That means making a formal offer before it’s too late.

Meanwhile, Miguel Delaney of The Independent suggest Spurs are willing to offer the 24-year-old as part of a swap deal.

That will appeal to Ajax, who already want Bergwijn, but the Dutch giants could hold out and get more money from a deal with United – granted Ten Hag has sufficient funds to spend.

Tottenham have already had an impressive summer after signing Yves Bissouma from Brighton, however, I don’t mind missing out on a player who remains under investigation for sexual assault, as per The Athletic.

Only time will tell if this is a blow for Ten Hag and United but a right winger should be among our list of priorities.
