Tottenham distance themselves from United-linked Christian Eriksen

Manchester United recently made an offer to free agent Christian Eriksen.

According to Football London, Tottenham Hotspur have not followed up on their interest in Eriksen which is brilliant news for United because he is a player that could really help Erik ten Hag next season.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte hinted last season that the club might be interested in re-signing the midfielder who left the club in January 2020.

Conte said (via BBC Sport): “For sure, it was great, it was fine, to see him on a pitch, to see that he is kicking a ball.

“What happened this summer was very not good, not good, for the people that worked with him, and the people that know him. I was scared in that moment.

“And now, to see him again ready to play football is great news. I think for Christian, the door is always open.”

During his short stint at Brentford last season, the Dane made 11 appearances and was directly involved in five goal contributions.

The 30-year-old proved that he can still play at the highest level and it would be ridiculous to pass on the opportunity to sign him this summer.

This will be music to Ten Hag’s ears if The Mirror are to be believed by suggesting he wants both Eriksen and Frenkie de Jong in his midfield next season.

And, on a number of levels, Eriksen is a signing that makes a lot of sense for United.

United are trying to restock their midfield while adding quality at the same time. Eriksen ticks a few boxes and doesn’t take a chunk out of the transfer kitty, therefore, Ten Hag has a bit more leeway to bolster his defence or attack.

Now the decision is over to him after receiving United’s offer.

Fingers crossed.

  1. I wonder whether United have made an offer to Eriksen or whether it is the usual made up nonsense. They’ve certainly never said they have and Eriksen’s camp haven’t either
