Fabrizio Romano confirms Man Utd midfielder will return following loan spell

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Flamengo but is set to return to the Old Trafford club this summer ahead of pre-season.

That’s according to journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, who has provided an update on the situation. Pereira, who has been capped by Brazil once, joined Flamengo in a season-long arrangement but the Brazilian club had an option to buy the midfielder permanently at the end of the loan.

As per the report, Flamengo have decided to not exercise that right and the 26-year-old will instead return to Carrington.

Furthermore, it’s claimed that United are open to selling Pereira this summer as Erik ten Hag’s revolution continues. Pereira has just 12 months remaining on his contract and is free to speak to foreign clubs over a pre-agreement in January.

SN’s verdict…
It definitely feels like Pereira’s time at United is coming to an end. With just one year left on his deal and no extension in sight, this summer is the perfect time to cash in. Flamengo’s unwillingness to exercise their €10.5m option to buy is, however, worrying.

Despite United’s lack of options in midfield, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the Brazilian is not in Ten Hag’s plans this summer and a sale could help raise funds for signings.

Should he be named in Ten Hag’s pre-season squad later this month, Pereira will be hoping to impress. He’s made a habit out of making headlines during pre-season in the past.
