Manchester United confirm Ten Hag’s first home game as manager

Erik ten Hag will take charge of Manchester United at Old Trafford for the first time on Sunday, July 31 after the club confirmed their last pre-season friendly match of the summer.

United’s 2022 pre-season preparations will conclude with a friendly against La Liga side Rayo Vallecano.

The game, which will be a 4pm kick-off, takes place a week before the new Premier League campaign kicks off.

Football director John Murtough told club media via ManUtd.com: “Pre-season is all about preparation and that is a great opportunity for those squad members who may not have featured in some of our earlier Tour and pre-season matches to get valuable minutes on the pitch – and where better to do this than Old Trafford?

“This will be the new manager’s first match at Old Trafford, and I am sure the fans will provide him with a warm welcome.”

Of course we will!

Rayo Vallecano finished 12th in La Liga last season and they’ve currently got two former United players in their squad. Radamel Falcao is expected to remain at the club this summer, and there will be chance for Old Trafford to get another close up look at Bebe, who joined United in 2010 before leaving for Benfica in 2014.

United’s pre-season starts with a game against Liverpool in Bangkok.

The team will then travel to Australia to take on Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

Tickets are £5 for members and season ticket holders.
