France star responds to transfer rumours amid Man Utd interest

Manchester United have been linked with a number of different player profiles this summer but versatile midfielders have been touted as targets more than others.

RB Leipzig and France star Christopher Nkunku is one of the hottest properties in Europe and the 24-year-old is believed to be on Manchester United’s radar.

Understandably, Leipzig are in no rush to sell their prized asset following his spectacular Bundesliga campaign, in which he scored 20 goals and assisted a further 13.

Links to Nkunku stretch far back, with previous reports claiming that United would attempt to use Rangnick’s relationship with the Leipzig club to help facilitate a move for the former Paris Saint-Germain player.

Since then, Rangnick has abandoned the two-year consultancy role he agreed to take on when he was appointed interim manager last year.

Speaking ahead of France’s UEFA Nations League fixtures, Nkunku has admitted that being linked to some of Europe’s top clubs is ‘flattering’.

“It’s no secret there are clubs that are interested in me,” he told Telefoot, via the Metro. “Yes, it’s flattering. But it’s also flattering to have a club like Leipzig doing everything to keep me.

“Here, we will have to think carefully and make a good decision. The World Cup is coming to life and this is a parameter to be taken into account.

“Like I said, you just have to think it through.”

Nkunku has two years remaining on his contract with the Bundesliga club and is valued at a whopping €65m by statistical website Transfermarkt.

Frenkie de Jong is another midfielder heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and the Barcelona star has emerged as one of Erik ten Hag’s top targets, whilst a move for Chelsea stalwart N’Golo Kanté has also been discussed.
