Jesse Lingard’s departure from Manchester United has been a long time coming and when his close family threw their toys out of the pram earlier this season, there was no way back for the 29-year-old.
Lingard has barely featured for United this season after resurrecting his career at West Ham last year but his 22-year spell at the club has now come to an end, with the club confirming his release earlier on Wednesday.
Earlier, Paul Pogba’s exit on a free transfer was also confirmed and we asked our readers to sum up his six years at United. The same question was put to them about Lingard and the verdict was very similar.
Longer than made sense for either side.

Lingard has been linked with a move back to West Ham but sides in Italy are also said to be interested in signing him on a free transfer.
In hindsight, United will be kicking themselves for not cashing in on the midfielder last summer when West Ham were desperate to sign him.
