Cristiano Ronaldo nominated for Player of the Year award

Manchester United talisman Cristiano Ronaldo has been nominated for yet another award after scoring 24 goals in all competitions for his side this season.

The 37-year-old ended the campaign in stellar fashion, finding the net 17 times in the league despite United’s disappointing season.

Despite his best efforts, United ended the season on their worst-ever points total but Ronaldo is likely to win the internal Player of the Year award and will now hope to beat some of his counterparts to the Professional Footballers’ Association prize.

As seen above, Ronaldo is joined by Kevin de Bruyne, Virgil van Dijk, Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane on the six-man shortlist. De Bruyne won the Premier League Player of the Year award last month and is currently the favourite to win the PFA accolade.

It’s been a season of goalscoring records for Ronaldo, who became the all-time top scorer in international football just days after returning to Manchester United in August last year.

Shortly after, he scored his 800th career goal with a brace against Arsenal and could now win his second PFA Player of the Year award, having previously won it in 2008.
