Man Utd and Barcelona agree fee for Frenkie de Jong but midfielder rejects move

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United since Erik ten Hag’s appointment but the former Ajax midfielder is believed to prefer a prolonged stay at the Spanish club.

Reports in England suggest that Ten Hag has pressured United into exploring a deal for De Jong but the Old Trafford club face the hurdle of convincing him to join a club not competing in the Champions League.

According to Spanish journalist Oriol Domenech, the two clubs have reached an agreement over the transfer figure but De Jong has rejected the possbility of reuniting with Ten Hag.

As per the report, Ten Hag called De Jong to gauge his interest and although De Jong did not completely rule out a transfer, he informed his former boss that he would not be following him to the Premier League.

De Jong has four more years remaining on his contract at Barcelona but the Spanish club could be forced to cash in on their asset, with economic troubles still hanging over their heads.
