Erik ten Hag could give Marcus Rashford new role this summer

Up until last summer, Marcus Rashford’s career was on a steady rise, and one or two difficult injuries aside, he was yet to suffer any real setback as he continued to climb the ladder at Old Trafford.

Following his involvement with England last summer, the 24-year-old underwent surgery to address a longstanding issue with his soldier and since his return in October last year, he has struggled to return to the levels he dazzled supporters with earlier.

With two years remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford, that has led to speculation over his future at the club but according to reports, he could be about to be trialed in a new position at United.

That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who say that if United fail to sign a striker this summer, Rashford could be tested as a striker in their pre-season friendlies this summer.

United’s frontline is under serious threat as question marks loom over several first-team regulars. Cristiano Ronaldo has just one year remaining on his deal, Edinson Cavani will leave next month, Anthony Martial is also expected to depart whilst there is no clarity on Mason Greenwood’s situation.

Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are said to hold an interest in Rashford but United run the risk of driving his value down if he endures another underwhelming season.

With the World Cup around the corner, he will be desperate to impress Erik ten Hag this summer and in truth, he cannot afford to start the new season as a benchwarmer.
