Cristiano Ronaldo makes shortlist for Premier League goal of the season

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has been shortlisted for Premier League goal of the season award.

Ronaldo, 37, managed to score 18 times in his first Premier League campaign since returning to United in August 2021.

It has been a terrible season on the pitch for United, but a lot of fans will hope Ronaldo stays next season to help set the standards under Erik ten Hag. We would have finished a lot lower than sixth in the league if it wasn’t for his goals.

The Portugal superstar finished third in the league’s goalscoring charts and one of his goals ensured that he is one of 10 Premier League players nominated for the 2021/22 Budweiser Goal of the Season award.

Cristiano Ronaldo vs Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in March

Fred flicked the ball to Ronaldo midway into the Tottenham half before CR7 took two touches before curving a shot past Hugo Lloris from 25-yards out.

The goal gave United a 1-0 lead, but they won the match 3-2 thanks to a Ronaldo hat-trick.

However, despite beating Tottenham this season, we were unable to finish in the top four. They took the final Champions League spot to spoil Arsenal’s season.
