Alan Shearer slams embarrassing Manchester United players after Brighton defeat

Alan Shearer has launched a scathing attack on Manchester United’s players following a shocking 4-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.

It has been a shockingly poor campaign for United, but it somehow got worse this weekend. United lost 4-0 to Brighton at the Amex Stadium where a bunch of gutless players underperformed again.

The Red Devils went 1-0 down within 15 minutes but never really looked like getting back into the game. Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard all got their names on the scoresheet, in an incredible result for Graham Potter’s side.

Shearer spoke about United’s performance on Match of the Day last night and went on an extraordinary rant. He lambasted their lack of commitment.

“They were shambolic, Manchester United, they were an embarrassment,” Shearer said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“And if he hasn’t already, Ralf Rangnick should get his players in tomorrow and show them the performance from Brighton.

“Because this is what committed footballers do for their club, their fans, for their teammates and their managers. They work hard, they are prepared to put a shift in, they are organised and they are committed. It should be a given, but it’s not at Manchester United.

“They should watch this, because these Brighton players today showed what they should do for their fans. They were magnificent, and some of the football they played was fantastic. They [United] are totally lost, but what are they doing on the training ground?

“You have to work on things, and that’s what Brighton do. United were an embarrassment to their football club today.”

Shearer is right and we’ve seen this bunch of the players embarrass us on a number of occasions this season. They were second to every ball at the Amex Stadium and they will probably put the same level of performance in for the next match.

United take on Crystal Palace away from home in their last game of the season.
