Manchester United ‘satisfied’ with Tahith Chong’s development

Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong could be given a chance to make a mark in the club’s first-team this summer, with the club satisfied with his development.

The 22-year-old winger is on loan at Birmingham City where he has contributed to four goals in 19 Championship outings for the side.

Chong joined Birmingham in the summer and hit the ground running at St. Andrew’s.

However, at the end of October, the Dutch youngster sustained a groin injury in training. After undergoing an operation to address the problem, Chong spent months out of action – recovering under United’s supervision at Carrington before returning to complete his loan.

Chong was recently speaking to Voetbal International. He was asked about whether he still has a future at Old Trafford and if he has a chance of breaking into the first team.

“Always with the thought: succeed at Manchester United. If that does not work, then it must be at the highest level for me. What this is, will then have to be seen.”

He added: “They have lifted the option in my contract, they see all my matches, and in the talks I’ve had with Darren Fletcher, technical director, it appears that they are satisfied with my development. They also really want me to rejoin them in the preparation for next season.”

With Erik ten Hag about to join the club as manager from Ajax, Chong should be looking to impress his fellow countryman.

Chong joined the United academy from Feyenoord in 2016.
