Birmingham City want Manchester United winger on loan again next season

Birmingham City want to sign Tahith Chong on loan again next season.

According to The Mirror, the Championship club will ask Manchester United if they can loan the 22-year-old winger away from Old Trafford to build up his first-team experience.

Of course, that was the plan for Chong this season until he had to undergo surgery on a groin problem that kept him out of action for over four months.

Chong starts in today’s derby against West Brom, with Birmingham positioned 19th in the second tier of English football.

The Dutch attacker has made 18 appearances under Lee Bowyer this season and scored his first goal for Birmingham against Bristol City at the beginning of March.

It could be argued that Birmingham would be higher up the table had Chong been fit enough to play more games this term, but that doesn’t count for anything at this stage.

It won’t surprise anyone that Birmingham want Chong back next season, but United must come to a decision on the player’s future before his contract expires.

Chong isn’t ready for the big step up — Birmingham to United’s first team — but the next manager may see things differently if he is given time to impress during the pre-season tour.
