Rhys Bennett scored a late equaliser against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Youth League to force the game to a penalty shootout, which sadly led to Manchester United U19s crashing out of the tournament.
Although Neil Wood’s side lost on the night, it was an intriguing battle with Dortmund and the group of youngsters should be looking to learn from the experience of reaching the Round of 16.
They won five from six matches in the group stages — finishing top of the group ahead of Villarreal, Atalanta and Young Boys – and they came close to reaching the quarter-finals.
Bennett, who plays at centre-back, took himself by surprise with his finish in the 84-minute when he thumped the ball into the net.
