Former PSG manager backs Pochettino despite constant United speculation

From the outside it looks like Mauricio Pochettino’s time at Paris Saint-Germain is coming to an end.

According to French publication Le Parisien, the Argentine is likely to leave at the end of the season.

Crashing out of the Coupe de France has seen the pressure intensify but PSG are still 13 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 and remain in the Champions League.

Some feel that Pochettino could lose his job if Real Madrid knock them out of the Champions League in the round-of-16, but the Telegraph claims he is a wanted man in the Manchester United dressing room.

It would make matters a lot easier for United if Pochettino was sacked in the meantime. That way, the club won’t need to pay any compensation fees, but he probably wouldn’t have a Ligue 1 title to boast as a result.

However, some in Paris still want Pochettino to succeed. Take former PSG manager Luis Fernandez for example, who says the current boss is often misunderstood in France and deserves more patience than he gets.

Fernandez said (via RMC Sport): “I know the man and the character. He is criticised a lot, such as not speaking French. It’s his professional side. He wants to be understood in English or Spanish. I know the function as a coach at PSG , you are observed and watched, we like you or we don’t like you. The function is complicated. Under the Qatari era, there were a lot of coaches. You have to be calm.

“He qualifies against Real Madrid in the round of 16, if he takes PSG to the final, if he wins the Champions League, everyone will be silent. A coach is judged on his results. For PSG, it’s the Champions League.

“We always want more with PSG. Yes, Pochettino lost the Coupe de France. Thomas Tuchel too and that didn’t stop him to win the Champions League next with Chelsea. I can’t be disappointed. I know the role. I want Pochettino to succeed.”

In France, they are already talking about Zinedine Zidane replacing Pochettino, but they’re always going to want a new shiny toy until they land the Champions League.

PSG sacked Thomas Tuchel and he won the holy grail with Chelsea later that season.

  1. I personally hate all these writers who hate Manchester United with passionate hatred.
How on earth could you prefer Pochettino to Erick Ten Hag.
Tell me one silverwire him Pochettino has laid hands on since his coaching career. What’s he’s style of play today, how good is his PSG with the likes of Messi, Mbappe, Neymar, Di Maria etc doing domestically & in the Europe? I can only see that some of you are sorely bent on destroying Manchester United. & I ask, what do you stand to gain, is Pochettino going to share his salaries with you?
Erik Ten Hag is a proven candidate to return United back to old glory days. I hate all you who are beating the drum of confusion in my club!
