Manchester United consider move for €30m-rated Borussia Dortmund centre-back

Reports in Germany suggest Manchester United are looking to buy another player Borussia Dortmund. This time it’s Manuel Akanji rather than Erling Haaland or Jude Bellingham.

According to Sport1 reporter Patrick Berger, Akanji has rejected a new contract from the Bundesliga side worth €9.5m a year in order to pursue a move to Old Trafford.

The price tag being reported is €30m – meaning he wouldn’t cost a lot more than Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly did, but significantly less than Harry Maguire who is proving to be problematic at the back this season.

Akanji is out of contract in 2023 and Dortmund have already announced the incoming signing of Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule.

Berger tweeted: “Manuel Akanji has rejected a latest offer of €9.5m salary p.a. to extend his #BVB contract (running until 2023), as we already reported. Been told Manchester United are very keen to sign him in summer. Price tag: €30m. Reunion at #MUFC with his buddy Jadon Sancho?”

This could see the Switzerland international link up with former team-mate Jadon Sancho at United, with the reporter stressing that they were close mates during their time together at BVB.

It would not surprise us if United were looking for a new centre-back this summer.

Eric Bailly’s future remains unknown and Phil Jones will be looking for a new club. That leaves us with Raphael Varane, Lindelof, Maguire and Axel Tuanzebe should he return from his loan spell at Napoli.
