Ralf Rangnick to lay wreath at Old Trafford for 64th Munich Air Disaster anniversary

The 64th anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster will be marked with a fan-led ceremony at Old Trafford on Sunday, after the pandemic restrictions made it impossible to hold the event last year.

It begins at 14:00 GMT on Sunday beneath the Munich memorial plaque on the East Stand forecourt of Old Trafford, and fans will be reading poems and songs, including a rendition of The Flowers of Manchester.

The names of those we lost to the tragedy will be read out, prior to a two-minute silence at 15:04 GMT.

Of course, United are playing in the FA Cup tonight so we won’t be in action on Sunday.

BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone claims interim manager Ralf Rangnick will lay a wreath at Old Trafford tonight to mark the 64th anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster. On top of that, the players will be wearing black armbands for the cup tie against Middlesbrough.

Stone tweeted“Ralf Rangnick will lay a wreath at OT tonight to mark the 64th anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster. Man Utd will wear black armbands in this evening’s FA Cup tie with Middlesbrough.”

We will have coverage from the ceremony on Sunday – hopefully bringing you pictures and videos.

Fans from across the world will be sharing their respects across social media.
