Bordeaux “seriously interested” in signing Phil Jones after talks with Manchester United

Phil Jones could yet find a route out of Manchester United this month.

It’s January 29 and we are quickly approaching deadline day, with a number of players unaware of where they will be playing their football next week. Or, in some cases, sitting on the bench…

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has a positive update on Phil Jones, citing French publication L’Equipe, for those who would like to see the defender back playing football regularly. He claims Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux are “seriously interested” in signing the English centre-back and talks have begun between the two clubs.

Romano adds that everyone is waiting for Ralf Rangnick’s final decision before allowing Jones to move to France for the remainder of the season.

The Italian journalist tweeted: “Bordeaux are seriously interested in signing Phil Jones from Manchester United, as per @lequipe. Bailly’s not leaving in Jan and so Bordeaux are hopeful to reach an agreement with Man Utd.

“Talks opened between clubs, waiting for Ralf Rangnick’s final decision.”

I’ve always been a fan of Jones and would love nothing more than to see him kick on and finish his career strongly – like it started! He has had a horrible time with injuries, and I think most United fans were happy to see him back in the line-up a few weeks ago.

There is no mention of this being a loan move so it sounds like Jones could be set to leave United permanently.
