The reason why Manchester United decided against Antonio Conte

As someone who frequently shares their opinions on Manchester United online, I often come across fans who hint they wanted Antonio Conte as manager.

The Italian was available shortly before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s axe, and his representatives made it known to the press that he would jump at the opportunity to manage United.

Bored of his time away from football, Conte settled for Tottenham.

The Telegraph has revealed why United didn’t appoint Conte as their manager before Spurs landed the Premier League-winning coach.

United are understood to have opted against appointing Conte amid concerns his relentless approach would be too demanding for their young squad.

In November, Gary Neville revealed why he thinks the club would never have appointed Conte, even if he was still available.

Neville told Sky Sports (via the Independent): “There will be people who say ‘Antonio Conte has just gone to Tottenham’. He was never coming to Manchester United.

“Manchester United’s board were never going to appoint Antonio Conte whether you agree with that or not.

“I don’t think Antonio Conte would have been a fit for Manchester United and I don’t think there is an absolutely perfect fit available at this time so they have to bring someone in temporarily until someone is available who can take forward the work that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done.”

United are still searching for a new manager to come in and pick up the pieces in the summer, but Conte is at Tottenham now and it looks like they are targeting Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag.

  1. Everybody wants pooch…. But will pooch leave psg… He has a mandate and that mandate is to win the CL… Apart from Pep, conte and klopp who else is capable of managing psg…its only pooch… So letting go of pooch is gonna take some persuasion from manu.
