Manchester United considering move for PSG striker if duo leave in January

Speculation that Manchester United will sign a striker is hitting the back pages.

While it is purely only speculation that Manchester United want a forward, with Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani’s days numbered, that is not stopping foreign press from linking us with Europe’s biggest names.

One name has come up: Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauro Icardi.

According to French publication L’Equipe, Icardi is being considered as a potential replacement if both Martial and Cavani leave in January. The report also claims Juventus are interested in a move for the striker.

However, it seems unlikely that both will leave this month as Ralf Rangnick has publicly stated that Cavani would be staying beyond the January transfer window.

If indeed the rumours are true, we’re not sure whether Icardi would be an upgrade on either Martial or Cavani.

Surely there’s a younger and better alternative out there?

Icardi has scored 38 goals in 92 games for PSG since joining from Inter Milan, initially on a one-year loan in 2019 before making the move permanent in 2020.

This season he has scored five goals in 20 appearances for the Parisians.
