Ralf Rangnick won’t be letting Edinson Cavani leave Manchester United in January without a fight.

The Uruguay international, who has besotted a large section of the fanbase since his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020, signed a contract extension with the club until June 2022.

Cavani has not made anywhere near enough appearances this season due to injuries, and I think everyone wants to see a fully fit Cavani for the remainder of the season.

Everyone but United (EBU).

However, the striker has been linked with Barcelona in the January transfer window, but Rangnick won’t entertain any of the speculation around Cavani’s future.

“He knows that I will definitely not let him go,” said Rangnick, as per BBC Sport.

Cavani started United’s previous match, a 3-1 win over Burnley, as Rangnick looks to get the best out of him in a strike partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo. We could see them in action together again tomorrow evening when the Reds play host to Wolves in the Premier League.

“I told him from the very first day that, for me, he is a highly important player,” the interim manager added. “He is probably the only one who can play as a striker back to goal and face to goal.

“And, as I said, his professionalism, his work ethic is just amazing and I told him that I desperately want him to stay until the end of the season. He knows that. He also knows how highly I rate him and how highly I respect him.

“We will definitely need Edi. I would rather have another Edi on top of that but for me it’s clear that Edi has to stay.”
