(Video) Manchester United concede farcical goal as Arsenal take the lead

No matter how you look at it, it’s a farce.

Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe managed to put the ball in the net while David de Gea was down injured. Fred appeared to stand on the Spaniard foot leaving his utterly useless on his line.

Although there was a VAR check, I don’t think you will find many United fans not agreeing with Martin Atkinson’s decision – and he didn’t blow his whistle when De Gea went down.

Atkinson took his time to make his final decision and the commentators working for Premier Sports thought he was going to disallow the goal at one stage, although I was not convinced…

United only have themselves to blame.

It was a goal that come under usual circumstances and it means United need to wake up quickly.

De Gea was fouled by his own team-mate, so I don’t see one legitimate reason why the goal should have been overruled, even though a number of United players made their feelings known to Atkinson after the goal was given a green light.

They haven’t got going yet after spending the start of the game passing around the back, unable to get in behind Arsenal’s press.
