Facundo Pellistri sent Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a message following United dismissal

Facundo Pellistri knows that when he returns to Manchester United from his loan spell at Deportivo Alaves, it will be under a different manager.

The Uruguayan youngster got some minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during pre-season but was sent back to Spain to get more first team football.

This season in La Liga, Pellistri has amassed the amount of appearances he made for the Spanish side last term, after making 13 appearances this time around – one more outing than the previous campaign – though he has yet to score or assist in Spain’s top division.

“I wrote to Ole,” Pellistri told Sid Lowe in an exclusive interview for the Guardian. “He gave me the chance to play for United and always taught me. I thanked him and wished him the best. Sadly, in football results rule. When things aren’t going well the easiest thing to sack the coach – that happens everywhere. Football’s like that. It can be cruel.”

Manchester United fans are set to pay tribute to their former manager on Thursday night by spreading a surfer flag across the Stretford End before the game against Arsenal kicks-off.

This also casts some uncertainty over Pellistri’s future when he returns to the club because he won’t know if the next permanent manager will want him part of the team’s plans moving forward.

We certainly hope he – and Amad Diallo – get the chances they deserve.

They were both signed a young talented to be developed at United and that should remain the plan moving forward.
