Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Man Utd loan star will return to the club

Andreas Pereira is currently enjoying an impressive loan spell at Flamengo. The midfielder left Manchester United during last summer’s transfer window but only committed to a season-long loan at the Brazilian club.

Pereira fell out of favour at Old Trafford following the 2019/20 season, as he spent the following season on loan at Lazio. The Brazil international was, however, not a regular in the Italian capital and instead sought out to complete a move to his home nation.

Solskjaer gave an update on Pereira’s situation at Manchester United after that sensational turnaround against Atalanta on Wednesday, with the Norwegian boss confirming he will be welcomed back at the club when his loan arrangement expires.

“Yeah, we follow Andreas, of course we do,” Solskjaer told TNT Sports, via Sport Witness. “He’s a very good player, fantastic person. And I’m so happy for him that he’s enjoying it over there. Because for us, it was the point: ‘Andreas, now you go and show how good you are’. I couldn’t give him enough playing time and we know the quality in him. When he has the trust and belief, he’s top quality, so I’m happy for him.

You know, at a certain stage of a player’s career, it’s important that you play enough at a high level. Last year, Andreas went on loan, he didn’t play enough. The season before, he played a lot for us, but then we signed Bruno. And I’m happy for him now and I’ll see him soon.

Of course,” He said when pressed on if he would like to see Pereira return to United.  “When he keeps on playing like he can do, at his best level, he’s a top player.”

Stretty News Verdict

Despite impressing for Flamengo, it’ll be hard for Pereira to nail down a long-term future at Manchester United. In his preferred position, Bruno Fernandes is almost untouchable and Paul Pogba is next in line if the Portugal international is unavailable.

It would make more sense for Manchester United to cash in on the 25-year-old if he continues to perform on a high level for the Brazilian club.
