Man Utd given Champions League boost as Atalanta captain is ruled out

Manchester United have been given a boost in their bid for consecutive wins in the Champions League. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side welcome Atalanta to Old Trafford for the first time on Wednesday and the visitors are already without defender Berat Djimsiti, who suffered a hand injury on international duty.

Furthermore, the Bergamo club will now be without their captain Rafael Toloi after the Brazilian sustained an abductor injury. That’s according to Italian outlet ANSA, who claim the commanding defender will now miss out on the important clash against United.

The 31-year-old was substituted in the first half of Atalanta’s 4-1 win over Empoli this weekend but will now have to watch his teammates from the sidelines.

The Italian side are currently top of the group, having recorded one win and one draw from the opening two games. Victory for Manchester United on Wednesday would see them go top of the group if the other group game between Young Boys and Villarreal ends in a draw.

Wing-back Robin Gosens, who starred for Germany at this summer’s European Championship, will also miss the game as Gian Piero Gasperini will be forced to make several changes.
