Cristiano Ronaldo came up with the goods once again in the Champions League as he celebrated a landmark appearance with an incredible 95th-minute winner against Villarreal.

The 36-year-old made his 178th appearance in the Champions League, setting a new record in the prestigious tournament whilst doing so, surpassing Iker Casillas’ previous mark of 177.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be delighted to see his side get three points on the board and secure their first win in the Champions League this season. The Norwegian has delivered his verdict on proceedings, insisting anything can happen when you have Ronaldo on your team, although he let slip United were lucky.

“That’s what happens here at Old Trafford,” he told BT Sport after the game. “It’s happened so many times before and of course, we had to throw caution to the wind and we got lucky in the end.

“They’re a good team. They’re a very, very hard team to beat and they’ve not lost a game since way before the final. THey’ve played some good teams before as well.

“It’s a difficult one because we’re at home and we want to win but they play so well. But if we don’t go and press them, they’ll be happy sitting off.”
