(Video) 17-year-old striker doubles Man Utd U21’s lead vs Bradford

Manchester United’s U21’s are in action tonight as they face League Two side Bradford in the Football League Trophy. The tournament, a mash-up with teams from the EFL and academy sides, allows teams from lower divisions the chance to collect silverware as well as youngsters to match themselves against seasoned professionals.

Joe Hugill, Manchester United’s 17-year-old wonderkid, has enjoyed a meteoric rise after impressing for the club’s youth sides. Earlier this summer, Hugill committed his future to United by penning a new contract.

Hugill’s performances for the youth sides has even earned him recognition from first-team manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The forward was involved in this summer’s pre-season and made an appearance from the bench against Wayne Rooney’s Derby County.

United took the lead in the tie with Bradford through an own-goal from Yann Songo’o but it was Hugill who would double his side’s lead, tapping into an empty net after some good work down the right-hand side, as seen above.
