Raphael Varane determined to guide Man United back to top

Since making a stunning summer switch from Spanish giants Real Madrid, Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has been one of the club’s standout performers.

Despite arriving in England with some remarkable credentials, which include winning four Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles, Varane would be forgiven for taking some time to adapt to a new country and a league he’s never played in before.

However, with virtually no bedding in period needed, the 2018 World Cup winner has kick-started his United career in impressive fashion.

Arguably one of the side’s most consistent players throughout the first four domestic matches, Varane has staked an early claim to be crowned the best signing of the season.

Not only is the Frenchman impressing on the pitch, but fans will also love the defender’s drive and determination to succeed.

Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports recently, the world-class centre-back has admitted that his intentions are to help guide the Red Devils back to the top of the Premier League – a position they have not ended a league season in since 2013.

“That’s my mentality,” said Varane. “I want to be better. I want to improve. I want to push myself.

“This is a new challenge for me,” he adds. “A different competition, a different mentality, a different atmosphere. It’s all new for me but I’ve enjoyed every day so far.

“It’s a big challenge to get Manchester United back to the top but I feel people want to win, people want to do great things with this club, and that’s a big motivation for me.”

Varane is expected to return to action on Sunday when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will take his squad to London to face West Ham United.
