Leicester City star keeping his options open amid Manchester United links

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans says he is “open to everything” amid transfer speculation linking him with Manchester United and Liverpool.

The 24-year-old was voted the club’s Player of the Year last season and scored an important goal in the FA Cup final.

His performances since joining the Premier League from AS Monaco have affirmed his standing as one of the best midfielders in the division, with both United and Liverpool said to be interested in the player ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

That would be a big step up for Tielemans – and one he probably deserves – but United need a defensive midfielder next summer. Someone in the shape of West Ham’s Declan Rice.

He’s got two years remaining on his deal at Leicester and the Foxes will be keen to tie the Belgium international down to another contract.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Tielemans was asked to give an update on his contract situation at the King Power Stadium.

“There’s no update really. I’m open to everything,” he revealed. “The transfer market has just closed, but I want to keep as many options as I can open.

“As long as I’m here I will give everything for the club. I’ve already done so, but I will do so even more. The contract situation is just something that is going on in football, it’s a normal situation.

“There are talks going on – I’m not saying I’m going to sign, I’m not saying I’m not going to sign. We will see.”

The interviewer pushed Tielemans further, asking if this meant he was keeping his options open. He replied: “Exactly.”

Tielemans has made 37 direct goal contributions in 113 appearances for Leicester City.

Let us know in the comments section if you think United should move for Tielemans in the summer? He could be seen as an alternative if Paul Pogba decides to leave.
