No Cavani, Fred or McTominay – full Manchester United squad vs Newcastle

Manchester United are finally in action again this weekend following the first international break of the season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be happy to have most of his squad back unscathed after the round of international fixtures.

United have enjoyed a good start to the season, earning seven points from their opening three games – a clear improvement on last season’s results.

Furthermore, the side has been boosted by one of their best summer transfer windows in recent years, with Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo all arriving. The trio are all in the squad to face Newcastle tomorrow.

Edinson Cavani, who was a substitute against Wolves two weeks ago, has not been included in the full squad, as per the Manchester Evening News. Scott McTominay, who had surgery on a minor groin injury prior to the trip to Molineux, has also been left out.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that United could face the prospect of losing Fred for at least two games due to an issue with COVID-19 regulations hindering him featuring for Brazil. It appears the midfielder has also been left out of the squad, as he is not listed in the report.

Cristiano Ronaldo is in line to make his second debut for the club as he makes the squad, whilst Jadon Sancho has recovered from the knock he suffered with England.

Photographers at Manchester United’s team hotel also spotted youngster Anthony Elanga, who scored two goals for Sweden’s U21 side after missing the start of the season due to injury.

Full squad: David de Gea, Tom Heaton, Lee Grant, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Luke Shaw, Nemanja Matic, Donny van de Beek, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Elanga, Cristiano Ronaldo

  1. Time for donny van de beek to start bt solskjaer is killing his talent.
the midfied three of van de beek, pogba and fernandes can only be compared to man city or chelsea, bayern or psg. Allow paul pogba to run box to box bt playing deeper role/ defensive midfield, OGS don’t limit him.

  5. it’s time for van de beak to sham what he got for manchester united,OGS should not underrate de beak let this guy have time now,ole had admited before that this guy is doing well in training so it’s time for him

  6. Van de beek is not a defensive midfielder, playing him with Fernandes and Pogba will make the team very vulnerable. There has to be a balance in the team. This is not fantasy football.

  7. Honestly, I get marveled by this school of thought… VDB has never been a defensive midfielder. He’s just a case of the right player at the wrong time.
