Ronaldo’s second debut: possible Manchester United XI vs Newcastle

As the first international break of the season is coming to an end, the focus will swiftly turn towards what could be Cristiano Ronaldo’s second debut for the club.

The superstar forward sealed a sensational return to the club last week and after being released early from the Portugal camp, Ronaldo was spotted by club cameras taking part in his first training session with his new teammates.

Manchester United welcome Newcastle to Old Trafford on Saturday and the extra time with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad gives the 36-year-old a good chance of starting the encounter. Edinson Cavani, who gave up his No7 shirt when Ronaldo joined, will also be vying to play but his first start of the season could come against Young Boys in the Champions League.

Donny van de Beek was left out of Louis van Gaal’s first Netherlands squad for this month’s set of internationals but two full weeks in training could offer the midfielder a chance of making his season bow.

Jadon Sancho withdrew from the England squad due to injury but was spotted in full training this week. Scott McTominay, who had surgery on a groin issue two weeks ago, is also back in training.

Solskjaer is expected to make few changes to his side as he looks to continue the promising start to the season which has so far earned his side seven out of nine points.

Possible Manchester United XI (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, Pogba; Greenwood, Fernandes, Sancho; Ronaldo
