Mason Greenwood reacts to winning ‘Player of the Month’ award

Mason Greenwood has started the new season in inspired form and the 19-year-old has been rewarded for his fine work by winning the first ‘Player of the Month’ award of the season.

Greenwood scored the all-important goal to regain United’s lead in the Premier League curtain-raiser against Leeds before getting his side back level against Southampton a week later.

Then, he scored the winner in a hard-fought game against Wolves before the international break, which means he has now scored in all of United’s fixtures this season. Greenwood was presented with the award this week and has thanked supporters for the votes.

“Yeah, it’s been a good start obviously,” he is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United websiteThree games and three goals, it’s something I’ve been wanting to do. I’ve been wanting to score goals from the start.

“I had a bit of a slow start last season but hopefully I can kick on. It makes [winning the award] a little bit more special for the fans voting for me,”

“I’d like to thank all of them (the fans) and it means the world to me to win this award and, hopefully, we can kick on as a team and get some more wins.”

The teenager was controversially left out of Gareth Southgate’s first England squad of the season but he will be hoping to continue his impressive campaign this weekend as Manchester United welcome Newcastle United to town.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has won each of his last three games against Newcastle, with last season’s 3-1 win at Old Trafford proving to be a crucial victory as United sealed second place.
