Manchester United given huge boost as midfielder returns to training

Manchester United have been handed a huge boost as midfielder Scott McTominay has made a return to training. The 24-year-old missed the 1-0 win at Wolves last month due to an ongoing groin issue.

The injury, which was managed during his involvement in this summer’s European Championship, was serious enough to need surgery and McTominay went under the knife ahead of United’s visit to Molineux.

The combative midfielder was one of the best players in that 5-1 win over Leeds and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be boosted by the news of his return to training, with the club confirming it earlier on Monday.

The update from United, as linked above, does not specify whether McTominay is back in full training with the squad or if individual work on the grass is being done.

Nevertheless, a swift return to action will be in McTominay’s sights as Solskjaer looks to continue his side’s promising start to the season.

Nemanja Matic, who replaced McTominay in the team for the game against Southampton, was heavily criticised for his performance whilst there are questions over Fred as well.

Donny van de Beek is yet to play this season but amid concerns over the depth in midfield, the Dutchman will be hoping for an extended run in the team.
