Ronaldo said Mourinho “doesn’t have the class” to manage Man Utd – report

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to complete a sensational return to Manchester United this week after the 36-year-old completed a medical over the weekend.

The deal came as a surprise to many supporters, with the majority already being resigned to their former star signing for Manchester City just 24 hours before Manchester United announced that an agreement had been reached with Juventus.

Nevertheless, Ronaldo is returning to Old Trafford and with the move comes a report from ESPN, detailing how the club sealed the sensational reunion.

The report claims that Ronaldo signing for Pep Guardiola’s side was a possibility but once Manchester United got involved, he had made his mind up already. Ronaldo is also said to have taken a small pay cut to make the move happen.

ESPN detail an instance in the Champions League game against Juventus in 2018, when Jose Mourinho cupped his hand to his ear after a 2-1 win. The gesture was not well received by the Juventus players and certainly not by Ronaldo, who is said to have walked past and said “[Mourinho] doesn’t have the class to manage Manchester United”.

Manchester United supporters can choose what to believe but it certainly fits into the homecoming narrative. The breakup between Mourinho and United later that year was ugly, and this anecdote is sure to please the sensationalists out there.
