West Ham expected to make offer to sign Jesse Lingard

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth claims West Ham are likely to make a bid for Jesse Lingard before transfer deadline day.

The Manchester United midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at the Hammers, and could be set for a permanent switch from Old Trafford this summer.

United are actively looking to sell players who sit on the squad fringes, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously made it clear, at least publicly, that Lingard is part of his plans for the new season.

We already know David Moyes is keen to sign the player, who helped his side qualify for the Europa League.

The Boot Room transcribed a recent update from Sheth, saying: “With Lingard, we are still expecting West Ham to come in with an offer to take him from Manchester United.”

Although I believe Lingard could prove to be a good squad player for the coming months, he needs to think about his own career and surely it would be better for him to be playing week-in week-out.

He almost made the Euro 2020 squad when not long ago he was completely out of the picture for England manager Gareth Southgate. That is not likely to continue if he’s sat on the bench, behind Bruno Fernandes, at United.
