Manchester United unveiled the signing of Raphael Varane in spectacular fashion earlier on Saturday – the 28-year-old was presented as the club’s third signing of the summer before the Premier League curtain-raiser against Leeds United.
The interest in Varane was longstanding and although United’s pursuit of the four-time Champions League winner dragged on, a deal was finally confirmed today.
Moments before kick-off, Varane sent the 75,000 in attendance at Old Trafford into a frenzy when he walked out on the pitch to the surprise of many fans.
The former Real Madrid star has now posted a selfie on Instagram from the centre of the Old Trafford pitch with a classy “Bonjour Manchester” caption.
Initially, it was hoped that Varane would be available for the game against Leeds but a hold-up meant that he was not registered in time.
Instead, the Frenchman will be hoping to make his debut in the next Premier League game as he eyes a winning start to life at Manchester United.
