Robin van Persie has jokingly asked Manchester United to announce the signing of free agent Lionel Messi.
Manchester United have been told to ramp up their interest in Messi after his contract expired with Barcelona. Despite deciding to sign a new contract and stay at Camp Nou, the Argentine’s wish was blocked by La Liga’s financial regulations.
Barcelona were put under pressure to shift a number of their high earners this summer, with speculation suggesting that Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho were the ones they wanted to sell most. Both players remain at the club.
Naturally, every big club will be linked with Messi as a result, even if the rumours sound ridiculous and Messi appears destined for Paris Saint-Germain.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano delivers the latest below:
Paris Saint-Germain have been the only club to approach Leo and Jorge Messi directly since Thursday evening – not using intermediary. Dressing room also ‘convinced’ that Leo’s coming. 🚨🇦🇷 #Messi
PSG contract proposal will include an option to extend the agreement until 2024.

Although it’s obvious, you should take Van Persie’s comment with a pinch of salt because Messi was never part of United’s plans this summer.
And I can’t see United suddenly scrapping everything to sign him.
