Lionel Messi potential transfer could derail PSG’s Pogba plans

Reliable French football journalist Julien Laurens states how Paris Saint-Germain’s potential switch for Lionel Messi could have an impact on the future of Paul Pogba.

Writing for ESPN, Laurens reveals that sources have revealed that Messi’s arrival would mean PSG end their interest in signing the Manchester United midfielder.

PSG look like the frontrunners to sign Lionel Messi, who technically ended his 21-year association with Barcelona at the end of June and is currently a free agent.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta insists that Barcelona had no choice but to part ways with the Argentina star due to the club’s already precarious financial situation, as per BBC Sport.

Laporta has made it clear the club and Messi had both wanted to sign a new contract, but salaries already represent 100% of the club’s earnings, and they are already spending far too much on player wages.

Speaking at a news press conference ahead of PSG’s Ligue 1 opener, Pochettino confirmed the French club are in talks with Messi’s entourage.

“Of course [signing Messi] is a possibility,” Pochettino said. “The club is working on it and if there is any information we will communicate it as soon as possible.”

Laurens adds that Messi joining PSG would increase the likelihood of Kylian Mbappe signing a new long-term deal with the club.
