Solskjaer given boost as new £43m signing set to be available v Leeds

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been given a huge boost in his preparations for the new season as he learns that Raphael Varane will be available for selection in time for Premier League curtain-raiser against Leeds in just over a week.

Manchester United kick off their campaign against Marcelo Bielsa’s side on August 14 and although formal completion of Varane’s deal is dragging, there is now confidence that the player will officially join next week.

That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who claim that Varane, who United could end up paying up to £43m for, had initially hoped on travelling to Manchester last weekend but was forced to wait it out due to issues obtaining a visa.

Now, the club is aiming to complete his transfer from Real Madrid by Wednesday, with the player needing to quarantine upon his arrival in England.

Manchester United will need to register Varane to the Premier League by Friday in order for Solskjaer to play him against Leeds and should the club complete the deal in accordance with the said timeline, the 28-year-old World Cup winner could make his debut at Old Trafford.
