Luke Chadwick accuses Mino Raiola of trying to get one over Manchester United

Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick wants Paul Pogba to stay.

From speaking to a lot of Reds this past week, I think more are edging towards wanting him finally sold because patience has worn thin. The stories about him wanting to leave Old Trafford have been constant and Mino Raiola is bound to be in his ear about one last big move.

Unfortunately, it’s a matter that is firmly in Pogba’s hands. The France international is in the final year of his contract with United and this has led to even more speculation over his future in recent times.

Paris Saint-Germain appear to be leading the race for the World Cup-winning midfielder this summer, as per Sky Sports, but that is because neither Real Madrid or Juventus are interested enough to stump up the cash required.

Those clubs are aware that in January, Pogba and Raiola can talk to European clubs without United getting in the way. All to make way for a free transfer next summer.

Former United midfielder Chadwick has exclusively told Caught Offside that he does not want to see United sell the 28-year-old this summer, even though there’s a risk of losing him on a Bosman.

Instead, Chadwick aims a dig at Raiola, the player’s agent, who has held a tense relationship with the club for some time.

He believes the Italian agent is trying to get one over United by dragging things out.

“The player’s in the position of power. It would obviously be great for Manchester United if Pogba would sign a new deal as he’s in the last year of his contract,” Chadwick said.

“At the end of the day, he’s in an incredible position now, having played probably the best football of his United career going into the final year of his contract. I think the money United could get for him now wouldn’t be as good as last summer if they’d moved him on then.

“Pogba wants to be winning titles – he won the World Cup with France but hasn’t really won anything big in his time at United. If he stays, and I hope he does, United have shown him what they’re building here.

“They’ve signed Sancho and Varane this summer and if they could get someone like Haaland next summer, it might show Pogba what United are trying to achieve. If they can win the Premier League, what better way of getting him to sign a new contract and stay a bit longer?

“Obviously the club’s relationship with his agent (Mino Raiola) has never been great and you just feel he’s trying to get one over United, taking him to the end of his contract and then moving him on to another club. It’s a tough one, he’s a really important player for United, a genuinely world class player. He’s the kind of player you need to win titles, so I’d like to see him stay for the season and hopefully United can win something and persuade him to stay and attract other new players to the club and help them move forward.”

  1. The big question remains: “What would Fergie have done”. No player however great was allowed to play the game that Pogba and his agent are trying with United. On his day he is great but how many days does he give his all? United cannot leave this decision to Pogba. They must make up their minds and get an answer now in the transfer period.

  2. Sell Pogba, now, to any club that he wants to go to, and use the money to buy a player who will be dedicated. Waste of time talking about this sleeping snake Pogba. There is Van de Beek give the lad a run of games.
