Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba ‘spoke at length’ before Man Utd transfer

Raphael Varane is set to join Manchester United this summer after the club announced it had reached an agreement in principle over his transfer. Now, it has been revealed that the defender reached out to Paul Pogba before the move was confirmed.

The 28-year-old joined Real Madrid from Lens in 2011, despite interest from Manchester United, and spent the next decade with the Spanish club. Varane won the Champions League four times during his time in Madrid but has decided to call it a day and try himself in the Premier League.

According to The Athletic, words were exchanged with Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba before finalising his move to the club, with the pair ‘speaking at length’.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted with the prospective arrival of Varane, arguing that the World Cup-winning star offers the team to play in a different way.

Varane is believed to be making arrangements to travel to Manchester this week, with formal confirmation of the move expected to come later this week.
