Newcastle United remain frontrunners to sign Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe on loan this summer, according to reports.
The Manchester Evening News claims Tuanzebe is seeking a move to get more opportunities than last season, and there’s a real possibility he could join Steve Bruce with the Magpies looking to recruit a new centre-half.
Bruce worked closely with Tuanzebe already at Aston Villa, where he signed the young English defence on loan twice.
Tuanzebe’s United contract expires next year but the club has the option to extend that by a further year, so there’s no real risk of losing him on a free.
If he’s true to himself he will go out on loan to get game time, especially after the signing of Raphael Varane is only going to push him further down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
At least if he goes out to another Premier League club he will get to stake a claim.
