After seemingly all but completing the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, it’s believed that Manchester United will turn their attention to possible reinforcements in other areas.

Two key positions, both sounded out by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as positions the club needs to strengthen, have been filled with the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

Next in line for the Old Trafford club seems to be possibly strengthening the midfield and the club has been given a boost after learning that Atletico Midfielder Saul Niguez could be available this summer.

That’s according to journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, who claims that a move to Manchester United is possible but a transfer hinges on negotiations between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona breaking down.

“I’m told about Saul, it’s a possibility if the deal will collapse with Barcelona,” Romano told The United Stand when quizzed on the likelihood of Saul joining Manchester United this summer.

“At the moment Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are in a quiet moment in the negotiations (for a Saul/Griezmann swap deal) but it’s not 100% collapsed yet from what I know.

“Saul is open to moving to the Premier League but at the moment there is nothing advanced with Manchester United, Chelsea, or Liverpool.

“He knows these three clubs are interested in the situation but in the transfer market, it’s not like FIFA. You can call the agent or the club to ask about the player and this is what Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool are doing. He (Saul) is on the market now.

“They are not talking, or are in advanced talks with Atletico Madrid yet. I think it will take some weeks to understand what will happen with Barcelona and if the deal will collapse, English clubs could have an opportunity for him.”

Earlier, the highly respected journalist had speculated that Manchester United could look to bring in a midfielder this summer but questions remain over the futures of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, and Donny van de Beek.
