David de Gea is the highest earning goalkeeper in the world on £375,000 a week.

The deal was agreed back in 2019 and it doesn’t surprise me that members of the club’s hierarchy are starting to scratch their heads.

This deal made him the club’s highest-paid player two years ago and it doesn’t sit well with those in power at Old Trafford, according to The Athletic.

The report suggests that the bumper contract led to challenges.

It came at a time United’s hierarchy were trying to control the books and they didn’t see De Gea’s form collapsing like it did.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already has a big decision to make between the sticks this season, but it doesn’t help having De Gea around as the highest earner. Can you imagine benching a goalkeeper on that money for the entire season?

It is unsustainable to have two goalkeepers of that standard.
