Although a deal does not appear to be imminent or advanced at this stage, Manchester United’s interest in Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier is well-documented. The 30-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant two-year spell in Spain and has earned a La Liga winners medal in the process.

Trippier was also a key figure for Gareth Southgate in this summer’s European Championship, featuring and assisting Luke Shaw’s opening goal in the final loss to Italy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be keen on adding Trippier to his squad amid uncertainty over Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s attacking output but a deal appears to have been put on hold as Atletico Madrid fight to keep their star.

Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick has weighed in on the potential signing of Trippier, insisting that one player, in particular, could benefit from the arrival.

“I’m not too surprised (by United’s interest), he had a fantastic at Euros, showing what he can do there,” Chadwick told CaughtOffside.

“He won La Liga with Atletico Madrid, so he’s someone who can come in and hit the ground running, offering something different to (Aaron) Wan-Bissaka when he’s going forward

“Obviously with the way (Edinson) Cavani plays, he feeds off crosses and Trippier is a master of getting that ball into the box.”

Cavani scored 17 goals in his maiden season at the club after a scintillating final three months of the season. The Uruguayan committed to a final one-year contract at the club and is likely to leave next summer.
