Carlo Ancelotti cannot stop Raphael Varane’s Real Madrid departure

Let’s face it – there is very rarely any smoke without fire and as the heat continues to ramp up – it does appear that Manchester United are closing in on securing the signing of Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with a move for the 2018 World Cup winner for several weeks now with leading journalist Fabrizio Romano providing a hugely exciting update recently.

The Italian transfer expert revealed that the defender wants to move this summer and joining up Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford is his preference.

While talks are expected to be ongoing, the latest in the ongoing saga comes from Spanish outlet El Confidencial, who claims the Frenchman’s time at Los Blancos is all but over.

The outlet note that is imperative for president Florentino Perez to secure a transfer fee, ideally €60m, in exchange for the 28-year-old, who will be eligible to move for free this time next year.

However, and perhaps most interestingly, El Confidencial goes onto claim that new manager Carlo Ancelotti is now resigned to the fact that he ‘can do nothing to stop the Frenchman’s departure’ and will have to ‘work with what he has’.
