Newcastle United enter race for Man United defender

According to recent reports Newcastle United has emerged as a possible summer destination for Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe.

That’s according to a recent report from The Athletic, who claims the English defender is drawing admirers in the North East.

Since climbing his way through United’s youth ranks, the talented defender has gone on to feature in just 37 senior first-team matches, with his most notable performance coming against Paris-Saint Germain during last season’s Champions League.

However, after failing to build on his earlier performance against the Ligue 1 giants, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has continued to keep the 23-year-old as nothing more than a squad player.

Following recent reports that Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane could be set to make a summer switch to Old Trafford, Tuanzebe is likely to see his name fall even further down Solskjaer’s pecking order.

Now, the latest in the ongoing saga comes from The Athletic, who have credited the Magpies with having a genuine interest in the defender.
