Man United identify £25m rated Lyon defender as ideal alternative to Raphael Varane

According to recent reports, Manchester United have earmarked Lyon centre-back, Joachim Andersen, as the ideal alternative to Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

That’s according to a recent report from Footmercato, who claims the Lyon defender is being targeted by both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils and their domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Andersen, 25, first joined Lyon in 2019 following a £26.1m move from Italian side Sampdoria.

Despite only joining the club two years ago, last season saw the Denmark international loaned out to then Premier League side Fulham.

Although the Cottagers were eventually resigned back to the Championship following a cruel relegation, Andersen was arguably one of the side’s best players.

A consistent campaign during the 2021-22 season has since seen the centre-back linked with a move back to England’s top-flight.

Footmercato claims Lyon would be open to offloading the centre-back so long as a bid of at least £25m (€30m) is made.

The outlet also notes that should United fail in their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Varane then they’re likely to up their interest in 25-year-old Andersen.
