According to recent reports, Manchester United’s hierarchy is in advanced negotiations with Real Madrid for French centre-back Raphael Varane.

That’s according to a recent claim from AS journalist Edu Cornago (as relayed by Express), who has reported that United’s talks with the Spanish giants have progressed with the Red Devils edging closer to landing their second signing of the summer.

Following on from their agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign winger Jadon Sancho (medical pending), a new defender was always likely to follow.

However, with many names reportedly on their wish-list, including Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Villarreal’s Pau Torres, fans were left to wonder which centre-back may make the summer switch to Old Trafford.

Well now, according to Cornago, it is most likely to be Varane after relentlessly talks with both the player’s representatives and Real Madrid have now advanced.

Should Varane leave Spain this summer, it will signal an end to a decade long spell at the Santiago Bernabeu – a place where he lifted 18 major trophies, including a whopping four Champions League.
