Heartbreak for Man Utd star as Brazil lose Copa America final

In the first of two major finals on Sunday, Manchester United midfielder Fred was dealt a heartbreaking end to his season as his Brazil side lost 1-0 to Argentina.

The final, taking place in Brazil, was the first competitive fixture between the two sides since the 2019 semi-final and it was another feisty encounter between the two South American heavyweights.

Manchester United star Fred was a key figure in their run to the final, starting six of their seven games, with the only exception being the last group game when the top spot was already confirmed.

Fred was substituted at half-time in the loss before seeing his side failing to break down a resilient Argentina side led by a determined Lionel Messi, who won his first trophy with his country on senior level.

Fred is now expected to take up a three-week-long vacation before joining Manchester United’s pre-season preparations but the 28-year-old is unlikely to be available for the first Premier League fixture against Leeds.
